Apparatus and method for providing amplifier linearity information

A method for providing a linearity information associated with an amplifier, the method comprising:

• obtaining information describing a gain of the amplifier for a bias condition of the amplifier, wherein the information describing the gain comprises a temporal average over a selected time span;
• obtaining information about the bias condition;
• and
• obtaining the linearity information based on both the information describing the gain of the amplifier and the information about the bias condition using a gain-bias characteristic of the amplifier.

An apparatus for providing a linearity information associated with an amplifier, the apparatus comprising:

• an operating state determinator having an input and an output associated therewith, wherein the operating state determinator is configured to receive at the input an information of the amplifier and wherein the operating state determinator is configured to provide at the output a gain information for a bias condition of the amplifier,
• wherein the gain information describes a gain of the amplifier or a quantity related to the gain of the amplifier;
• and
• an evaluator having inputs and an output associated herewith, wherein the evaluator is configured to receive at the first input a gain information from the operating state determinator, receive at a second input an information of the amplifier, and receive at a third input a gain-bias characteristic, and wherein the evaluator is configured to provide at the output the linearity information based on both the information describing the gain of the amplifier and information about the bias condition of the amplifier using a gain-bias characteristic of the amplifier.
