Abstract
A hybrid vehicle drive system for a vehicle includes a first prime mover, a first prime mover driven transmission, and a rechargeable power source. The hybrid vehicle drive system further includes an interface between the transmission and the prime mover for coupling to an electric motor. The electric motor can be in direct or indirect mechanical communication with a hydraulic pump. The electric motor can receive power from the prime mover driven transmission through the interface.
Claims18
A hybrid vehicle drive system for use with a first prime mover and a first transmission driven by the first prime mover, the system comprising:
- a second prime mover coupled to a rechargeable energy source;
- and
- a PTO interface, wherein the first prime mover is configured to provide power through the PTO interface to the second prime mover to operate the second prime mover, and the second prime mover is configured to provide power to a drive shaft through the PTO interface,
- wherein an electrical control system monitors torque of the second prime mover and the first prime mover to ensure a turbine torque limit associated with the first transmission is not exceeded, and
- wherein the second prime mover is configured to provide additional power to the drive shaft when the first prime mover provides power to the drive shaft through the transmission.
A hybrid vehicle drive system for use with a first prime mover and a first transmission driven by the first prime mover, the system comprising:
- a second prime mover coupled to a rechargeable energy source;
- a PTO interface, wherein the first prime mover is configured to provide power through the PTO interface to the second prime mover to operate the second prime mover, and the second prime mover is configured to provide power to a drive shaft through the PTO interface;
- and
- an electrical control system configured to monitor torque of the second prime mover and the first prime mover to ensure a turbine torque limit associated with the first transmission is not exceeded,
- wherein the second prime mover is configured to provide additional power to the rechargeable energy source by using continuous power from the first prime mover when the first prime mover provides power to the drive shaft through the transmission, wherein the second prime mover is configured to provide additional power to the drive shaft when the first prime mover provides power to the drive shaft through the transmission.
A hybrid vehicle drive system for use with a first prime mover and a first transmission driven by the first prime mover, wherein the first prime mover is an internal combustion engine, the system comprising:
- a second prime mover coupled to a rechargeable energy source, wherein the second prime mover is an electric motor;
- a PTO interface, wherein the first prime mover is configured to provide power through the PTO interface to the second prime mover to operate the second prime mover, and the second prime mover is configured to provide power to a drive shaft through the PTO interface;
- and
- an electrical control system configured to monitor torque of the second prime mover and the first prime mover to ensure a turbine torque limit associated with the first transmission is not exceeded,
- wherein the second prime mover is configured to provide additional power to the drive shaft through the PTO interface when the first prime mover provides power to the drive shaft, provide power to the rechargeable energy source, and directly drive an accessory.
