Abstract
Bone cages are disclosed including devices for biocompatible implantation. The structures of bone are useful for providing living cells and tissues as well as biologically active molecules to subjects.
Claims26
A device, comprising:
- a bone cage defining an internal cavity;
- one or more biologically active molecules disposed in the internal cavity of the bone cage;
- and
- a semi-permeable component including brain endothelial cells having one or more characteristics of a blood brain barrier capillary endothelium, the semi-permeable component at least partially enclosing or at least partially enclosed by the bone cage, the semi-permeable component being selectively permeable to the one or more biologically active molecules to allow passage of the one or more biologically active molecules out of the bone cage.

An implantable device, comprising:
- one or more biologically active materials that do not include bone tissue, wherein the one or more biologically active materials include at least one of biologically active molecules or cells;
- a porous bone cage at least partially forming an internal cavity having the one or more biologically active materials disposed therein, the porous bone cage including a scaffold with living bone cells having decreased immunogenicity, the porous bone cage configured to selectively allow passage of the one or more biologically active materials therethrough;
- and
- a semi-permeable component including brain endothelial cells having one or more characteristics of a blood brain barrier capillary endothelium, the semi-permeable component at least partially enclosing or at least partially enclosed by the bone cage, the semi-permeable component being selectively permeable to the one or more biologically active materials to allow passage of the one or more biologically active materials out of the bone cage.
