Mainframe virtualization

A method comprising:

• identifying request data describing a request by a first program to a second program, wherein the request data is based on an interception, by a first exit in the first program, of a call to the second program by the first program, wherein the call comprises the request;
• identifying response data describing a response by the second program to the request, wherein the response data is based on an interception of the response by a second exit in the first program;
• and
• instantiating, using a data processing apparatus, a virtual service based on the request data and response data, wherein the virtual service, when executed, is to model operation of the second program.

A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising computer readable program code embodied therewith, the computer readable program code comprising:

• computer readable program code configured to intercept a call by a first program to a second program using a first exit of the first program associated with the call, wherein the call comprises a request of the second program;
• computer readable program code configured to facilitate redirection of the request to a virtual service configured to model operation of the second program;
• computer readable program code configured to receive a response to the call generated by the virtual service;
• and
• computer readable program code configured to return the response to the first program using a second exit of the first program associated with the call.

A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising computer readable program code embodied therewith, the computer readable program code comprising:

• computer readable program code configured to identify request data describing a request by a first program to a second program, wherein the request data is based on an interception, by a first exit in the first program, of a call to the second program by the first program, wherein the call comprises the request;
• computer readable program code configured to identify response data describing a response by the second program to the request, wherein the response data is based on an interception of the response by a second exit in the first program;
• and
• computer readable program code configured to instantiate a virtual service based on the request data and response data, wherein the virtual service, when executed, is to model operation of the second program.

A system comprising:

• a processor device;
• a memory element;
• and
• a virtual service manager to:
• identify request data describing a request by a first program to a second program, wherein the request data is based on an interception, by a first exit in the first program, of a call to the second program by the first program, wherein the call comprises the request;
• identify response data describing a response by the second program to the request, wherein the response data is based on an interception of the response by a second exit in the first program;
• and
• instantiate a virtual service based on the request data and response data, wherein the virtual service, when executed, is to model operation of the second program.
