Construction of multi rate low density parity check convolutional codes

A device for encoding a sequence of information bits, comprising:

• an LDPC-CC encoder to generate a first part of a codeword from a sequence of information bits;
• a set of programmable accumulators coupled to the LDPC-CC encoder to generate a second part of the codeword, where the second part of the codeword generated at the output of the set of programmable accumulators is combined with the first part of the codeword to generate the codeword, and where the code rate of the codeword is varied by the number of accumulators being enabled to connect to the encoder;
• a puncturing unit coupled to the output of the encoder for shortening the length of the first part of the codeword;
• and
• a rate matching unit coupled to the output of the encoder, to the output of the puncturing unit and to the output of the set of programmable accumulator to further adjust the code rate of the codeword.
