Abstract
The present invention embraces methods for the diagnosis and treatment of learning or mental disorders, as well as the identification of agents useful in the treatment of such disorders based upon the identified involvement of Sarcoplasmic Ca2+-ATPase type 2 Protein in synaptic plasticity and neurotransmitter release in 22q11 deletion/DiGeorge Syndrome.
Claims1
A method for treating a schizophrenia comprising administering to a subject that has been diagnosed with schizophrenia a therapeutically effective amount of a sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum calcium ATPase type 2 (SERCA2) inhibitor, wherein said SERCA2 inhibitor is cyclopiazonic acid or analog thereof so that the activity of SERCA2 in the brain cells of the subject is inhibited, thereby treating the subject's schizophrenia.
