Abstract
The present invention provides novel barcode microstructures and methods for making and using the microstructures for molecular recognition, and/or delivery of therapeutic, diagnostic, contrast, and imaging agents.
Claims21
A microstructure comprising
- (a) a core;
- and
- (b) a plurality of distinct layers surrounding the core;
- wherein the plurality of distinct layers comprises (i) quantum dot-containing layers, and (ii) spacer layers not containing quantum dots, wherein there are at least two quantum dot containing layers;
- wherein the quantum dots are present in each quantum dot containing layer at a defined intensity level, wherein each quantum dot containing layer comprises a plurality of a single type of quantum dot that is different relative to quantum dots contained in any of the other quantum dot containing layers, wherein each quantum dot-containing layer is separated from other quantum dot containing layers by a spacer layer, and wherein a ratio of fluorescent intensities from the quantum dots in the plurality of quantum dot containing layers after simultaneous excitation defines a unique barcode for the microstructure.
