Abstract
A differential phase detector for an optical storage system is set forth. The differential phase detector includes a photodetector circuit arranged to detect light deviations associated with radial errors in the optical storage system. A non-linear equalizer is in communication with the photodetector circuit. The output of the non-linear equalizer is in communication with signal processing circuitry. The signal processing circuitry uses the equalized signals to generate one or more radial error signals.
Claims20
A phase detector comprising:
- difference logic configured to:
- receive a first slicing circuit output signal of a first slicing circuit and a second slicing output signal of a second slicing circuit;
- generate a difference signal having a pulse width corresponding to a difference between edges of the first and second slicing circuit output signals;
- and
- aberration compensation circuitry configured to communicate with the difference logic, wherein the aberration compensation circuitry is adapted to ensure generation of the difference signal by the difference logic in the presence of signal aberrations occurring at the edges of the first and second slicing circuit output signals.
A method for detecting a difference between first and second generally continuous signals, the method comprising:
- receiving a first output signal of a first slicing circuit and a second output signal of a second slicing circuit, at least one of the first output signal or the second output signal having signal aberrations occurring at edges of the at least one of the first or second output signal;
- and
- applying an aberration compensation technique to generate a difference signal having a pulse width corresponding to a time difference between the first output signal and the second output signal.
