Abstract
Polydiorganosiloxane polyoxamide, linear, block copolymers and methods of making the copolymers are provided. The method of making the copolymers involves reacting a diamine with a precursor having at least one polydiorganosiloxane segment and at least two oxalyamino groups. The polydiorganosiloxane polyoxamide block copolymers are of the (AB)n type.
Claims18
A copolymer comprising at least two repeat units of Formula I:
- each R1 is independently an alkyl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or aryl substituted with an alkyl, alkoxy, or halo;
- each Y is independently an alkylene, aralkylene, or a combination thereof;
- G is a divalent residue equal to a diamine of formula R3HN-G-NHR3 minus the two —NHR3 groups;
- R3 is hydrogen or alkyl or R3 taken together with G and to the nitrogen to which they are both attached form a heterocyclic group;
- n is independently an integer of 0 to 1500;
- and
- p is an integer of 1 to 10, and
- wherein the copolymer refractive index is from 1.41 to 1.50.
An article comprising a copolymer comprising at least two repeat units of Formula I:
- wherein
- each R1 is independently an alkyl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or aryl substituted with an alkyl, alkoxy, or halo;
- each Y is independently an alkylene, aralkylene, or a combination thereof;
- G is a divalent residue equal to a diamine of formula R3HN-G-NHR3 minus the two —NHR3 groups;
- R3 is hydrogen or alkyl or R3 taken together with G and with the nitrogen to which they are both attached forms a heterocyclic group;
- n is independently an integer of 0 to 1500;
- and
- p is an integer of 1 to 10,
- wherein the article is in the form of a particle, a droplet, a pellet, a sphere, a strand, a ribbon, a rod, a tube, a film, or a sheet.
A method of preparing an article comprising:
- preparing a reaction mixture comprising:
- a) a precursor of Formula II
- wherein
- each R1 is independently an alkyl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or aryl substituted with an alkyl, alkoxy, or halo;
- each R2 is independently an alkyl, haloalkyl, aryl, or aryl substituted with an alkyl, alkoxy, halo, or alkoxycarbonyl;
- each Y is independently an alkylene, aralkylene, or a combination thereof;
- n is independently an integer of 0 to 1500;
- and
- p is an integer of 1 to 10;
- and
- b) a diamine of formula R3HN-G-NHR3,
- wherein
- G is a divalent residue unit equal to the diamine minus the two —NHR3 groups;
- and
- R3 is hydrogen or alkyl or R3 taken together with G and with the nitrogen to which they are both attached forms a heterocyclic group;
- mixing the reaction mixture;
- forming the reaction mixture;
- and
- partially or completely polymerizing.
