Provided is a method for selectively demethylating a 2-methoxy group. Specifically provided is a production method of a compound represented by formula (7) below through the following reactions.

A compound represented by formula (5a):
- wherein ring A represents a benzene ring or a 6-membered aromatic heterocycle;
- R1 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-6 alkyl group, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an amino group, a mono-C1-6 alkylamino group, or a di-C1-6 alkylaminogroup;
- and at least one of R2, R3, and R4 represents a methoxy group, and the rest each represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-6 alkyl group, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an amino group, a mono-C1-6 alkylamino group, or a di-C1-6alkylamino group.
