Transfer of data related to broadcast programming over a communication network

A method for receiving data related to broadcast programming with a broadcast programming receiver, the method comprising:

• receiving the broadcast programming with a broadcast programming interface;
• generating, with a processing unit, a request for the data related to broadcast programming after receiving the broadcast programming;
• sending the request for the data to a networked device via the communication network using a communication network interface;
• receiving the data from the networked device via the communication network using the communication network interface;
• determining from recording settings within the received data whether particular broadcast programming has been previously recorded;
• and
• eliminating a scheduled recording of the particular broadcast programming by the broadcast programming receiver when the particular broadcast programming has been previously recorded.

A method, comprising:

• receiving broadcast programming at a first set-top box, wherein the first set-top box is coupled to a second different set-top box via a communication network, the first set-top box and the second set-top box each configured to receive the broadcast programming directly from a content provider;
• obtaining with the first set-top box a particular version of data related to the broadcast programming based upon a date and time label associated with the particular version;
• storing in the first set-top box the particular version of data related to the broadcast programming;
• receiving, at the first set-top box from the second set-top box over the communication network, a request for data related to the broadcast programming, the request generated in the second set-top box after the second set-top box receives the broadcast programming
• processing the request in the first set-top box;
• and
• in response to the request, transferring the particular version of data related to the broadcast programming from the first set-top box to the second set-top box over the communication network.
