Abstract
Disclosed are various embodiments that facilitate sending input commands to an application over a network that may have variable latency characteristics. Multiple input commands are obtained from a client over the network. It is determined whether a delay before one of the input commands is necessary to preserve the meaning of the input command. The input command is provided to an application executed in a hosted environment in one or more computing devices after the delay when the delay is determined to be necessary.
Claims30
A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying a program executable in a computing device, the program comprising:
- code that executes an application in a virtualized environment in a cloud computing resource, the virtualized environment including at least one virtualized input device;
- code that encodes a video signal generated by the application into a video stream;
- code that sends the video stream to a client;
- code that obtains a plurality of input commands from the client over a network with a variable amount of latency;
- code that compares a first time period between obtaining a first input command of the plurality of input commands and obtaining a second input command of the plurality of input commands to a second time period between when the first input command was generated in the client and when the second input command was generated in the client;
- and
- code that provides the second input command to the application through the at least one virtualized input device after a delay corresponding to a difference between the second time period and the first time period when the second time period is greater than the first time period.
A system, comprising:
- at least one computing device;
- and
- a server application executable in the at least one computing device, the server application comprising:
- logic that obtains a plurality of input commands from a client over a network with a variable amount of latency;
- logic that determines whether a delay before a current input command of the plurality of input commands is necessary to preserve a meaning of the current input command;
- and
- logic that provides the current input command to an application executed in a hosted environment in the at least one computing device after the delay when the delay is determined to be necessary.
A method, comprising:
- obtaining, in at least one computing device, an input command from a client, wherein the input command is to be provided to an application executed in a hosted environment in the at least one computing device;
- obtaining, in the at least one computing device, a video frame number from the client, wherein the video frame number corresponds to a video frame generated by the application, and the video frame was displayed in the client when the input command was generated in the client;
- and
- providing, in the at least one computing device, the input command in association with the video frame number to the application.
