Devices, systems, and methods for repair of vascular defects

A system for treating traumatically disrupted vessels, the system comprising:

• at least one graft comprising a graft lumen and an aperture;
• at least one side-channel configured to extend beyond a vessel wall so as to be accessible from outside the vessel;
• at least one expandable support element extending beyond the at least one graft, the at least one expandable support element capable of sealably coupling at least one end portion of the at least one graft to a vessel lumen so as to define a continuous channel between the vessel lumen and the graft lumen for engaging the traumatically disrupted vessel to secure the graft to the vessel,
• wherein the aperture is configured to receive a balloon from the at least one side-channel for actuating the at least one expandable support element, wherein the aperture is configured with a closed configuration to present a generally smooth luminal surface within the graft lumen to reduce clotting upon removal of the balloon from the aperture, wherein the aperture closes upon itself along a generally straight line in the closed configuration, and an open configuration to provide access to the graft lumen for the balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element;
• and,
• a balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element.

A shunt device for shunting a traumatically disrupted vessel comprising:

• a body comprising a graft, at least one support segment, at least one lumen extending between first and second ends of the body, and an access port into said lumen,
• the at least one support segment of the body being expandable from a first state to second, expanded state, said at least one support segment extending beyond said graft and being generally equal in size to a dimension across the vessel when expanded to the second state, said at least one support segment configured to secure the graft to the vessel,
• the access port being disposed between said first and second ends of the body and configured to extend beyond a vessel wall to provide access from outside the vessel to the lumen, the access port being sized to receive at least a portion of a balloon for expanding the at least one segment to the second state, the access port extending to the side of the body,
• the access port including an elongate aperture, the elongate aperture having a closed configuration presenting a generally smooth luminal surface within the lumen to reduce clotting upon removal of the balloon from the access port, wherein the elongate aperture closes upon itself along a generally straight line in the closed configuration, and an open configuration to provide access to the lumen for the balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element.

A balloon expandable shunt for shunting a traumatically disrupted vessel, comprising:

• a graft defining a first lumen extending between first and second ends of the graft;
• at least one expandable support element coupled to the graft and extending outwardly beyond at least one of said first and second ends for engaging the traumatically disrupted vessel to secure the graft to the vessel;
• an access portion side channel extending radially outward from said first lumen, the access portion side channel comprising an access portion conduit having an elongate aperture with a closed configuration and an open configuration, wherein the access portion side channel is configured to extend through a vessel wall to provide access between the outside of the vessel and a vessel lumen,
• wherein when the elongate aperture is in the closed configuration the access portion side channel defines a smooth, clot-resistant inner graft surface and an elliptically shaped outer surface, wherein the elongate aperture closes upon itself along a generally straight line in the closed configuration, and
• wherein when the elongate aperture is in the open configuration it defines a second lumen in the access portion side channel, the second lumen configured to provide access to the first lumen for a balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element.

A system for treating traumatically disrupted vessels, the system comprising:

• at least one graft comprising a graft lumen;
• at least one radially extending side-channel comprising an actuatable elongate side aperture, the at least one radially extending side-channel configured to extend at least between an exterior of a vessel and an interior of a vessel;
• at least one expandable support element extending beyond said at least one graft, the at least one expandable support element capable of sealably coupling at least one end portion of the at least one graft to a vessel lumen so as to define a continuous channel between the vessel lumen and the graft lumen, wherein the elongate side aperture is configured to receive a balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element in an open configuration, wherein the elongate side aperture defines a smooth, clot-resistant inner graft surface in a closed configuration, wherein the elongate side aperture closes upon itself along a generally straight line in the closed configuration;
• and,
• a balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element.

A shunt device for shunting a traumatically disrupted vessel comprising:

• a body comprising at least one lumen extending therethrough between first and second ends of the body, a support element extending beyond at least one of said first and second ends of the body, the support element being expandable from a first state to second, expanded state, said support element being generally equal in size to a dimension across the vessel when expanded to the second state for engaging the traumatically disrupted vessel to secure the body to the vessel, and
• an access port comprising an elongate aperture into said lumen, the access port being disposed between said first and second ends of the body and being configured to extend from an exterior of the vessel to an interior of the vessel, the elongate aperture being sized to receive at least a portion of a balloon for expanding at least the body segment to the second state,
• the access port radially extending from the side of the body,
• the elongate aperture having a closed configuration and an open configuration such that when the elongate aperture is in the closed configuration it defines a smooth, clot-resistant inner graft surface, wherein the elongate aperture closes upon itself along a generally straight line in the closed configuration, and when the elongate aperture is in the open configuration it is configured to provide access to the first lumen for said at least a portion of a balloon for expanding at least the body segment to the second state.

An expandable shunt for shunting a traumatically disrupted vessel, comprising:

• a graft defining a first lumen extending between first and second ends of the graft;
• at least one expandable support element coupled to the graft and extending outwardly beyond at least one of said first and second ends for engaging the traumatically disrupted vessel to secure the graft to the vessel;
• an access portion side channel extending radially outward from said first lumen beyond a vessel wall, the access portion side channel comprising an actuatable closure mechanism including an elongate aperture,
• wherein when the actuatable closure mechanism is in a closed configuration the access portion side channel defines a smooth, clot-resistant inner graft surface, wherein the elongate aperture closes upon itself along a generally straight line in the closed configuration, and
• wherein when the actuatable closure mechanism is in an open configuration it defines a second lumen in the access portion side channel, the second lumen configured to provide access to the first lumen for a balloon for actuating the at least one expandable support element.
