Method and system for no buffered traffic indication for wireless local area network (WLAN) power save

A system for power control, the system comprising:

• one or more circuits that enable establishment of a peer relationship with one or more peer communication devices based on establishment of an association with a distinct coordinating communication device;
• said one or more circuits operable to:
• enter into a low-power operating state;
• wake up and determine that there is no buffered data to transmit to any of said one or more peer communication devices;
• and
• enable transmission of a no-data indication message to each of said one or more peer communication devices while operating in an active operating state;
• said one or more circuits enable reception of an acknowledgment message from said each of said one or more peer communication devices based on said transmitted no-data indication messages, each of the received acknowledgment messages indicating whether a corresponding peer communication device has data to transmit;
• and
• said one or more circuits enable entry into the low-power operating state upon determining that none of the one or more peer communication devices has data to transmit.

A system for power control, comprising:

• a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a base station and with one or more peer communication devices;
• wherein the wireless transceiver is operable to:
• enter into a low-power operating state for a specified period;
• wake up and determine that there is no buffered data to transmit to any of said one or more peer communication devices;
• and
• transmit a no-data indication message to each of said one or more peer communication devices while operating in an active operating state;
• wherein the wireless transceiver is operable to receive and process an acknowledgment message including a no-data indication from said each of the one or more peer communication devices based on the transmitted no-data indication messages;
• and
• wherein the wireless transceiver is operable to determine to enter the low power operating state based on receiving the acknowledgment messages with the included no-data indications.
