System and method for effectively providing content to client devices in an electronic network

A content server for supporting content distribution in an electronic network, said content server comprising:

• one or more processors operable to:
• create a global recommendation list based on client profiles associated with a plurality of client devices;
• determine an optimal global candidate associated with said plurality of client devices from received content items based on said created global recommendation list;
• determine one or more target client devices from said plurality of client devices based on said client profiles and peer-to-peer statistics associated with transfer of content items between said plurality of client devices through a peer-to-peer network;
• and
• automatically download said determined optimal global candidate, from said content server, directly to said determined one or more target client devices without receiving a request from said one or more target client devices.
