Abstract
A communication system processing element comprises a processor coupled to a memory and implements an endpoint of the system. The endpoint includes a session initiation protocol (SIP) component and a web services component. The SIP component is configured for communication via SIP signaling with one or more other endpoints of the system. The web services component is configured for interfacing the SIP component to one or more communication service applications of the system.
Claims25
An apparatus for use in a communication system, the apparatus comprising:
- a processing element comprising a processor coupled to a memory;
- the processing element implementing an endpoint of the system;
- the endpoint comprising a session initiation protocol (SIP) component configured for communication via session initiation protocol signaling with one or more other endpoints of the system;
- the endpoint further comprising a web services component configured for signaling, by use of the session initiation protocol component that is executing on a first processor-based device, to one or more communication service applications of the system that are executing on a second processor-based device, wherein the first processor-based device is different than the second processor-based device,
- wherein the web services component is further configured to interface with the SIP component by use of a dynamic application service binding between simple object access protocol (SOAP) messages and service application program interfaces (APIs) of the SIP component.
A method for use in a processing element of a communication system, the processing element implementing an endpoint comprising a session initiation protocol (SIP) component and a web services component, the method comprising the steps of:
- the session initiation protocol component communicating via session initiation protocol signaling with one or more other endpoints of the system;
- binding the SIP signaling to signals from the web services component, by use of a dynamic application service binding between simple object access protocol (SOAP) messages and service application program interfaces (APIs) of the SIP component;
- and
- the web services component signaling, by use of the session initiation protocol component that is executing on a first processor-based device, to one or more communication service applications of the system that are executing on a second processor-based device, wherein the first processor-based device is different than the second processor-based device.
A nontransitory processor-readable storage medium containing having embodied therein software code for use in a processing element of a communication system, the processing element implementing an endpoint comprising a session initiation protocol (SIP) component and a web services component, wherein the software code when executed by the processing element implements the steps of:
- the session initiation protocol component communicating via session initiation protocol signaling with one or more other endpoints of the system;
- binding the SIP signaling to signals from the web services component, by use of a dynamic application service binding between simple object access protocol (SOAP) messages and service application program interfaces (APIs) of the SIP component;
- and
- the web services component signaling, by use of the session initiation protocol component that is executing on a first processor-based device, to one or more communication service applications of the system that are executing on a second processor-based device, wherein the first processor-based device is different than the second processor-based device.
