Abstract
A channel descriptor management message is transmitted on a broadcast connection to a mobile terminal. The channel descriptor management message provides a format for a frame. The frame includes a resource space. The channel descriptor management message defines a plurality of channels within the resource space and allocates at least one of the channels to a plurality of users. Subsequent resource allocation messages may refer to a location within a channel rather than a location within the entire resource space.
Claims32
A method for allocating a downlink OFDM resource space, the method comprising:
- transmitting a channel descriptor management message, the channel descriptor management message providing a format for a transmission unit, the transmission unit including an OFDM resource space, said channel descriptor management message providing a definition for a plurality of sub-resource spaces within the OFDM resource space, each sub-resource space having an associated sub-resource space identifier and being individually allocatable;
- and
- transmitting a transmission unit, the transmission unit comprising:
- for each of at least one receiver, a respective sub-burst within at least one of the plurality of sub-resource spaces within the OFDM resource space;
- and
- a downlink mapping component that includes information for each receiver indicating where the respective sub-burst for the receiver is located in the OFDM resource space, wherein the information for each receiver associates the sub-resource space identifier that is associated with the sub-resource space in which the receiver's sub-burst is located with a connection identifier that the receiver looks for.
A method of transmitting using an OFDM resource space comprising:
- broadcasting a resource allocation map, the resource allocation map comprising a root map, the root map comprising pointers to locations of a plurality of downlink sub-maps, each pointer being associated with a connection identifier or allocation code that specifies a group of mobile terminals to which the respective downlink sub-map is applicable;
- transmitting the plurality of downlink sub-maps in the locations pointed to by the pointers in the root map, each downlink sub-map containing information allowing a determination of a respective location in the OFDM resource space where each of at least one sub-burst is located;
- transmitting each sub-burst in the respective location in the OFDM resource space.
A method of allocating an OFDM resource space comprising:
- broadcasting a resource allocation map comprising a root map that, for each of at least one MAC state comprising at least one of sleep mode and idle mode, includes a pointer that points to a respective location in the OFDM resource space where broadcast information for receivers in the MAC state is located, the pointer being associated with a connection identifier or allocation code that receivers in the MAC state look for;
- and
- for each of the at least one MAC state:
- for receivers in the MAC state, transmitting the broadcast information in the respective location in the OFDM resource space.
