Abstract

A corrective action of a user of a mobile computing device is detected. Whether the corrective action occurred within a predetermined time of an orientation of data on the display switching from a first to a second orientation is determined. Based on this determination, either (a) input data generated from an accelerometer and magnetometer of the device from immediately prior to the orientation of the data switching is identified and associated with output data that indicates to not switch the orientation of the display; or (b) input data generated from the accelerometer and the magnetometer from immediately prior to the corrective action detection is identified and associated with output data that indicates to switch the orientation of the display from the first to the second orientation. Training data that includes the identified input data and associated output data is provided to an analytical model for generating a trained model.

Dependent claims

A computer-implemented method, comprising:

performing, by a computing device, a first change in an orientation of a display from a first orientation of the display to a second orientation of the display;
detecting, by the computing device after the first change in the orientation of the display has been performed, a first movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous;
responsive to determining that the first movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous was detected within a predetermined time after the first change in the orientation of the display, defining a model to predict a user preference for the orientation of the display by providing the model with first training data that includes:
(i) first input data that was generated by an accelerometer of the computing device immediately before the first change in the orientation of the display from the first orientation of the display to the second orientation of the display, and
(ii) first output data that indicates to not switch the orientation of the display;
performing, by the computing device, a second change in the orientation of the display from the first orientation to the second orientation;
detecting, by the computing device after the second change in the orientation of the display has been performed, a second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous;
and
responsive to determining that the second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous did not occur within the predetermined time after the second change in the orientation of the display, further defining the model to predict the user preference for the orientation of the display by providing the model with second training data that includes:
(i) second input data that was generated by the accelerometer of the computing device immediately before detecting the second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous, and
(ii) second output data that indicates to switch the orientation of the display.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause performance of operations that comprise:

performing, by a computing device, a first change in an orientation of a display from a first orientation of the display to a second orientation of the display;
detecting, by the computing device after the first change in the orientation of the display has been performed, a first movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous;
responsive to determining that the first movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous was detected within a predetermined time after the first change in the orientation of the display, defining a model to predict a user preference for the orientation of the display by providing the model with first training data that includes:
(i) first input data that was generated by an accelerometer of the computing device immediately before the first change in the orientation of the display from the first orientation of the display to the second orientation of the display, and
(ii) first output data that indicates to not switch the orientation of the display;
performing, by the computing device, a second change in the orientation of the display from the first orientation to the second orientation;
detecting, by the computing device after the second change in the orientation of the display has been performed, a second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous;
and
responsive to determining that the second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous did not occur within the predetermined time after the second change in the orientation of the display, further defining the model to predict the user preference for the orientation of the display by providing the model with second training data that includes:
(i) second input data that was generated by the accelerometer of the computing device immediately before detecting the second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous, and
(ii) second output data that indicates to switch the orientation of the display.

one or more processors;
and
one or more non-transitory computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of operations that comprise
performing, by a computing device, a first change in an orientation of a display from a first orientation of the display to a second orientation of the display;

performing, by the computing device, a second change in the orientation of the display from the first orientation to the second orientation;
detecting, by the computing device after the second change in the orientation of the display has been performed, a second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous;
and
responsive to determining that the second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous did not occur within the predetermined time after the second change in the orientation of the display, further defining the model to predict the user preference for the orientation of the display by providing the model with second training data that includes:
(i) second input data that was generated by the accelerometer of the computing device immediately before detecting the second movement of the computing device that indicates that the orientation of the display is erroneous, and
(ii) second output data that indicates to switch the orientation of the display.
