Abstract
The present invention provides methods to prevent photoreceptor death. In particular, the present invention provides peptides which prevent FAS-mediated photoreceptor apoptosis.
Claims7
A method of inhibiting photoreceptor apoptosis comprising administering to a subject a photoreceptor protective composition comprising a photoreceptor protective polypeptide comprising:
- a) a fragment of MET comprising SEQ ID NO:1(MET12), or (b) a fragment of MET that comprises at least 70% sequence similarity to MET12, wherein said polypeptide inhibits FAS-mediated photoreceptor apoptosis, and wherein said photoreceptor protective composition is administered to said subject intraocularly, intravitrealy, or periocularly.
A method of inhibiting photoreceptor apoptosis comprising administering to a subject a photoreceptor protective composition comprising a photoreceptor protective polypeptide comprising:
- a) a fragment of MET comprising SEQ ID NO:1(MET12), or (b) a fragment of MET that comprises at least 70% sequence similarity to MET12, wherein said polypeptide inhibits FAS-mediated photoreceptor apoptosis, and wherein said subject suffers from an ocular condition, disease, or condition or disease affecting ocular health.
