The present invention relates to a multilayer surface coating, including a PVC layer including inorganic fillers, said coating including a barrier layer including polyvinyl alcohol and a silane compound, said silane compound including at least one amine function.

A surface covering comprising a PVC-based layer, said layer comprising inorganic fillers, said covering comprising a barrier layer comprising polyvinyl alcohol and a silane compound, said silane compound comprising at least one amine function wherein the barrier layer is provided in proximity to the PVC-based layer.
