Liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal composition having a nematic phase and including at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by formula (1) as a first component, at least one compound selected from the group of compounds represented by formula (2) as a second component:

• wherein R1 is alkyl having 1 to 12 carbons, alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbons, or alkenyl having 2 to 12 carbons;
• R2 and R3 are independently alkyl having 1 to 12 carbons, alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbons, alkenyl having 2 to 12 carbons, or alkenyl having 2 to 12 carbons in which arbitrary hydrogen is replaced by fluorine;
• ring A is 2,6,7-trioxabicyclo[2,2,2]octane-1,4-diyl, 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, 2-fluoro-1,4-phenylene, 3-fluoro-1,4-phenylene, 3,5-difluoro-1,4-phenylene, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, tetrahydropyran-2,5-diyl, or pyrimidine-2,5-diyl, and at least one ring A of formula (1) is 2,6,7-trioxabicyclo[2,2,2]octane-1,4-diyl;
• Z1 is a single bond, difluoromethyleneoxy, ethylene, or carbonyloxy;
• X1 and X2 are independently hydrogen or fluorine;
• and Y1 is fluorine, chlorine, trifluoromethoxy, or trifluoromethyl;
• m is 1, 2, 3, or 4.
