## Abstract

Disclosed is a multimedia message service method and system for sharing and searching for multimedia messages stored in an MM box. The MMS client has the possibility to associate an access mode (“public”, “restricted”, or “private”) to any multimedia message stored in or uploaded to an MM box. When a multimedia message is permitted to be shared, the MMS clients who have been granted access to the multimedia message can be notified of the shared multimedia message. When the MMS client requests to view or retrieve a multimedia message, the MMS relay/server checks if the MMS client has been granted permission to access to the multimedia message. If the MMS client has been granted permission to access to the multimedia message, the MMS relay/server allows the MMS client to access the multimedia message.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A multimedia message service method, by a multimedia message service server, the method comprising the steps of:
receiving and storing a multimedia message from a first terminal, the multimedia message providing access to a second terminal;
receiving an establishment request from the first terminal, the establishment request specified by the first terminal and establishing one of a plurality of access modes for the multimedia message, wherein the plurality of access modes includes an access permission level;
establishing a first access mode according to the establishment request for the multimedia message;
receiving an access request for the multimedia message stored in the server from the second terminal;
determining if the second terminal is allowed to access the multimedia message based on the established first access mode; and
transmitting the multimedia message,
wherein the access permission level is at least one of a private mode for only first terminal access, a restricted mode for second terminal access established from the first terminal, and a public mode for all terminal access the multimedia message.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The multimedia message service method of claim 1, further comprising:
notifying the second terminal that the second terminal is allowed to access the multimedia message.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The multimedia message service method of claim 2, further comprising:
receiving a change request for changing of the multimedia message access mode; and
changing the first access mode to a second access mode included in the change request.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The multimedia message service method of claim 2, further comprising:
establishing an access mode for a multimedia message stored in a multimedia message box according to a user's request to permit the second terminal to access the multimedia message,
wherein an access permission deadline for the multimedia message is established.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The multimedia message service method as claimed in claim 4, further comprising:
allowing the second terminal to access the multimedia message based on the notification,
wherein access permission condition information is transmitted when performing access to the multimedia message, with the access permission condition information containing information about the access mode, information about allowing the second terminal to access the multimedia message based on the restricted mode, and information about the access permission deadline.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The multimedia message service method of claim 5, wherein, in the step of establishing the access mode, information of the access permission condition information is transmitted when transmitting the multimedia message.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The multimedia message service method of claim 6, wherein, in the step of notifying the second terminal, information related to the access permission condition is transmitted when notifying the second terminal of the access permission.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The multimedia message service method of claim 5, further comprising providing the second terminal with the access permission condition information established for the multimedia message according to the user's request.

### Claim 9 (depends on 5)

The multimedia message service method of claim 5, wherein the access permission condition information established for the multimedia message is changed depending on a user's request.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

The multimedia message service method of claim 6, further comprising notifying the second terminal that access permission of the second terminal to the multimedia message is revoked when the access permission of the second terminal is revoked.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The multimedia message service method of claim 1, further comprising:
receiving, from the second mobile terminal, a request to search a multimedia message box;
searching the multimedia message box for a multimedia message when the search request corresponds to a multimedia message search request, and transmitting the multimedia message to the second mobile terminal when the second mobile terminal is authorized to access the multimedia message; and
detecting a multimedia message, to which the second mobile terminal has a right of access, from the multimedia message box included in a search scope of the multimedia message search request, and transmitting the detected multimedia message to the second mobile terminal.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The multimedia message service method of claim 11, wherein, in the step of detecting the multimedia message, when the search scope in the multimedia message search request identifies a multimedia message box account of a specific user and detects a multimedia message that the second mobile terminal is authorized to access from multimedia messages stored in the multimedia message box account of the specific user, the detected multimedia message is transmitted to the second mobile terminal.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The multimedia message service method of claim 11, wherein, in the step of detecting the multimedia message, when the search scope in the multimedia message search request identifies all multimedia message boxes and detects a multimedia message that the second mobile terminal is authorized to access from multimedia messages stored in all the multimedia message boxes, the detected multimedia message is transmitted to the second mobile terminal.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The multimedia message service method of claim 11, wherein, in the step of detecting the multimedia message, when the search scope in the multimedia message search request identifies a multimedia message box of a search requestor, all multimedia messages stored in the multimedia message box of the search requestor are transmitted to the second mobile terminal.
