## Abstract

A virtual cash system, method, and apparatus has an account record containing a record of money amounts associated with a wireless device and a transmitter for wirelessly transmitting to the wireless device predetermined information from the account record. Cash amounts can be spent from the account record directly from the wireless device via information derived from the wireless device via a bar code on the display, a short range radio signal, a light beam, or the like. A different security code is generated for each account transaction for verification.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer operated method for receiving payment through a virtual cash system comprising:
creating an electronic transaction record for a payment in a transaction, the electronic transaction record including a first amount of virtual cash and security information;
transmitting over a communications network an electronic verification request for the transaction, the electronic verification request comprising:
the security information;
an identifier for a first account record; and
an instruction to transfer the first amount of virtual cash to the first account record;
receiving from the communications network an electronic verification response for the transaction;
receiving an authorization for the payment of the transaction; and
completing the transaction.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the security information is a static number.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the security information has a fixed portion and a rolling portion.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the security information is received from a first wireless device associated with the first account record.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the communications network is a wireless communications network.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the authorization for the payment is received via a wireless communication network.

### Claim 7

A computer system for use in receiving payment through a virtual cash system, the computer system comprising:
a memory;
a communications input/output (I/O) device; and
a processor operable to:
store in the memory an electronic transaction record for a payment in a transaction, the electronic transaction record including a first amount of virtual cash and security information;
transmit via the communications I/O device an electronic verification request for the transaction, the electronic verification request comprising:
the security information;
an identifier for a first account record; and
an instruction to transfer the first amount of virtual cash to the first account record;
receive from a communications network via the communications I/O device an electronic verification response for the transaction; and
complete the transaction.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The computer system of claim 7, wherein the security information is a static number.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The computer system of claim 7, wherein the security information has a fixed portion and a rolling portion.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The computer system of claim 7, wherein the security information is received from a first wireless device associated with the first account record.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The computer system of claim 7, wherein the communications I/O device comprises a wireless transceiver.

### Claim 12 (depends on 7)

The computer system of claim 7, wherein the processor is further operable to receive via the communications I/O device an authorization for the payment of the transaction.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The computer system of claim 12, wherein the communications I/O device comprises a wireless transceiver and the authorization for the payment received is received via the wireless transceiver.

### Claim 14

A computer system for use in receiving payment through a virtual cash system, the computer system comprising:
means for creating an electronic transaction record for a payment in a transaction, the electronic transaction record including a first amount of virtual cash and security information;
means for transmitting over a communications network an electronic verification request for the transaction, the electronic verification request comprising:
the security information;
an identifier for a first account record; and
an instruction to transfer the first amount of virtual cash to the first account record;
means for receiving from the communications network an electronic verification response for the transaction;
means for receiving an authorization for the payment in the transaction; and
means for completing the transaction.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The computer system of claim 14, wherein the security information is a static number.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The computer system of claim 14, wherein the security information has a fixed portion and a rolling portion.

### Claim 17 (depends on 14)

The computer system of claim 14, wherein the security information is received from a first wireless device associated with the first account record.

### Claim 18 (depends on 14)

The computer system of claim 14, wherein the communications network is a wireless communications network.

### Claim 19 (depends on 14)

The computer system of claim 14, wherein the means for receiving an authorization for the payment in the transaction further comprises means for receiving a wireless communication of the authorization for the payment.

### Claim 20

A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, said computer readable program code executable to implement a method for operating a virtual cash system comprising:
creating an electronic transaction record for a payment in a transaction, the electronic transaction record including a first amount of virtual cash and security information;
transmitting over a communications network an electronic verification request for the transaction, the electronic verification request comprising:
the security information;
an identifier for a first account record; and
an instruction to transfer the first amount of virtual cash to the first account record;
receiving from the communications network an electronic verification response for the transaction;
receiving an authorization for the payment of the transaction; and
completing the transaction.
