## Abstract

A device to assuage distressed infants via an adjustable vertical motion combined with an adjustable orientation. The device has a frame, an infant resting member coupled to the frame that is capable of retaining an infant in an adjustable position and a mechanism that is capable of moving the infant resting member in a vertical motion to soothe the infant.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A device for soothing an infant, comprising:
a frame having a lower frame that rests on the ground and an upper frame;
the lower frame having first and second vertical members that extend above the lower frame and the first and second vertical members each having a pivot point at an end of the respective first and second vertical members opposite of the end attached to the lower frame;
the upper frame pivotally attached to the first and second vertical members at the pivot points at an end of the upper frame;
an infant resting member coupled to the upper frame at an end opposite of the pivot points that is capable of holding an infant in an adjustable position including a position in which the infant's feet are substantially below its head;
an element connected to the lower frame and the infant resting member to maintain the angle of the infant resting member; and
a mechanism that moves the upper frame and the infant resting member in a vertical motion to soothe the infant.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the upper frame is counter supported by one of a counter weight and a counter spring.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1 further comprising a mechanism that holds the infant against the infant resting member during the vertical motion.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein an orientation of the infant resting member is adjustable to one or more other orientations.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The device of claim 4, wherein the orientation of the infant resting member is adjustable from a vertical position to a horizontal position so that the infant can sleep on the infant resting member.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the infant resting member further comprises a torso shaped form and a mechanism that holds the infant against the torso shaped form.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The device of claim 6, wherein the torso shaped form has an adjustable shape.

### Claim 8

A device for soothing an infant, comprising:
a frame having an element with a pivot point on the frame at an end of the frame;
an infant resting member coupled to the frame opposite the end of the frame with of the pivot point that is capable of holding an infant in an adjustable position including a position in which the infant's feet are substantially below its head;
an element connected to the frame and the infant resting member to maintain the angle of the infant resting member; and
a mechanism that moves the infant resting member in a vertical motion to soothe the infant by pivoting the infant resting member relative to the pivot point.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The device of claim 8, wherein the frame is counter supported by one of a counter weight and a counter spring.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The device of claim 8 further comprising a mechanism that holds the infant against the infant resting member during the vertical motion.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The device of claim 8, wherein an orientation of the infant resting member is adjustable to one or more other orientations.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The device of claim 11, wherein the orientation of the infant resting member is adjustable from a vertical position to a horizontal position so that the infant can sleep on the infant resting member.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The device of claim 8, wherein the infant resting member further comprises a torso shaped form and a mechanism that holds the infant against the torso shaped form.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The device of claim 13, wherein the torso shaped form has an adjustable shape.
