## Abstract

Process for the production of leather, wherein pelts, pickled pelts or semifinished products are treated with at least one copolymer (A) which is obtainable by copolymerization of the following comonomers: (a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated C3-C10-carboxylic acid or at least one ethylenically unsaturated C4-C10-dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride, (b) at least one (meth)acrylate of an α-branched C3-C10-alkanol, (c) at least one (meth)acrylate of a primary C4-C20-alkanol.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A process for the production of leather, said process comprising treating pelts, pickled pelts or semifinished products with at least one copolymer (A) obtained by copolymerization of comonomers consisting of:
(a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated C3-C10-carboxylic acid or at least one ethylenically unsaturated C4-C10-dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride,
(b) at least one (meth)acrylate of an α-branched C3-C10-alkanol,
(c) at least one (meth)acrylate of a primary C4-C20-alkanol.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein at least one comonomer (b) is a (meth)acrylate of a tertiary C4-C10-alkanol.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein at least one comonomer (c) is a (meth)acrylate of a primary β- or γ-branched C4-C20-alcohol.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein at least one comonomer (b) is a methacrylate of a tertiary C4-C10-alkanol and at least one comonomer (c) is an acrylate of a primary β- or γ-branched C4-C20-alcohol.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein copolymer (A) is obtained by copolymerization of
a. altogether from 5 to 30% by weight of ethylenically unsaturated C3-C10-carboxylic acid or ethylenically unsaturated C4-C10-dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride,
b. altogether from 5 to 30% by weight of (meth)acrylate of α-branched C3-C10-alkanol,
c. altogether from 40 to 90% by weight of (meth)acrylate of primary C4-C20-alkanol.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein ethylenically unsaturated C3-C10-carboxylic acid (a) incorporated in the form of polymerized units or ethylenically unsaturated C4-C10-dicarboxylic acid (a) incorporated in the form of polymerized units is present in at least partly neutralized form.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein the anhydride of ethylenically unsaturated C4-C10-dicarboxylic acid (a) which is incorporated in the form of polymerized units is present in at least partly hydrolyzed and, if necessary, at least partly neutralized form.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The process according to claim 1, wherein copolymer (A) is a random copolymer.
