Abstract
A method and apparatus for forming an osteotomy in bone. The osteotomy opening is formed in a bone with a keyhole. A similarly configured implant is inserted into the opening with a key configured to engage the keyhole to provide stability and support to the osteotomy opening.

A method for performing an osteotomy, the method comprising:
- cutting a bone along a substantially radial cutting plane;
- forming a first keyhole in the bone adjacent to the cutting plane;
- moving the bone on either side of the cut apart so as to form an opening in the bone;
- and
- positioning a first implant in the opening created in the bone, wherein the first implant comprises at least one key, and further wherein the at least one key is disposed in the first keyhole formed in the bone.

A method for performing an osteotomy, the method comprising:
- cutting a bone along a cutting plane, wherein the bone is a pelvis;
- forming a first keyhole in the bone adjacent to the cutting plane;
- moving the bone on either side of the cut apart so as to form an opening in the bone;
- and
- positioning a first implant in the opening created in the bone, wherein the first implant comprises at least one key, and further wherein the at least one key is disposed in the first keyhole formed in the bone.
