Abstract
A system, method, and computer program product are provided for delivering video content over a wide area network (WAN). Included is at least one server for transcoding or transrating the video content for delivery over the WAN.
Claims21
A system, comprising:
- at least one intermediate server for:
- receiving a plurality of portions of video content from a source over a predetermined period of time;
- and
- for each of the portions of the video content:
- determining a portion of the predetermined period of time during which the portion of the video content was received;
- selecting one of a plurality of additional servers according to the portion of the predetermined period of time during which the portion of the video content was received;
- and
- distributing the portion of the video content to the selected one of the additional servers;
- wherein each of the additional servers is associated with a different portion of the predetermined period of time, such that:
- a first one of the additional servers that is associated with a first portion of the predetermined period of time is selected for distributing thereto portions of the video content received during the first portion of the predetermined period of time, and
- a second one of the additional servers that is associated with a second portion of the predetermined period of time is selected for distributing thereto portions of the video content received during the second portion of the predetermined period of time.

A computer program product embodied on a computer readable medium, comprising:
- computer code for receiving a plurality of portions of video content from a source over a predetermined period of time;
- and
- for each of the portions of the video content, computer code for:
- determining a portion of the predetermined period of time during which the portion of the video content was received;
- selecting one of a plurality of additional servers according to the portion of the predetermined period of time during which the portion of the video content was received;
- and
- distributing the portion of the video content to the selected one of the additional servers;
- wherein each of the additional servers is associated with a different portion of the predetermined period of time, such that:
- a first one of the additional servers that is associated with a first portion of the predetermined period of time is selected for distributing thereto portions of the video content received during the first portion of the predetermined period of time, and
- a second one of the additional servers that is associated with a second portion of the predetermined period of time is selected for distributing thereto portions of the video content received during the second portion of the predetermined period of time.
