Abstract

A method, system, and article of manufacture are disclosed for transforming a definition of a process for delivering a service on a specified computing device. This service process definition is comprised of computer readable code. The method comprises the steps of expressing a given set of assumptions in a computer readable code; and transforming the definition by using a processing unit to apply the assumptions to the definition of the process to change the way in which the process operates. The definition of the process may be transformed by using factors relating to the specific context in or for which the definition is executed. Also, the definition may be transformed by identifying, in a flow diagram for the process, flows to which the assumptions apply, and applying program rewriting techniques to those identified flows.

Dependent claims

A system for transforming a definition of a process for delivering a service on a specified computing device, said definition being comprised of a multitude of components expressed in a first computer readable code in a computer readable form, the system comprising one or more processor units configured for:

expressing in a second computer readable code a given set of assumptions for executing the definition of the process on the specified computing device;
processing a flow diagram for the process, said flow diagram including representations of said multitude of components and representations of data flow paths between said components, including locating one or more data flow paths in said flow diagram to which said given set of assumptions apply to identify one or more of said components of said definition of the process for removal from said definition;
and
transforming said definition by removing from said definition of the process the identified one or more of said components to obtain a changed definition of the process to change a configuration of the definition of the process on the specified computing device to deliver the service from the specified computing device;
and
wherein said assumptions include:
there has been no change to the definition of the process on the specified computing device since a defined time;
and
only defined types of updates are to be performed on the specified computing device to the process.

An article of manufacture comprising:

at least one non-transitory computer usable hardware medium having computer readable program code logic tangibly embodied therein to execute a machine instruction in one or more processing units for transforming a definition of a process for delivering a service on a specified computing device, said definition being comprised of a multitude of components expressed in a first computer readable code in a computer readable form, the computer readable program code logic, when executing, performing the following steps:
expressing in a second computer readable code a given set of assumptions for executing the definition of the process on the specified computing device;
processing a flow diagram for the process, said flow diagram including representations of said multitude of components and representations of data flow paths between said components, including locating one or more data flow paths in said flow diagram to which said given set of assumptions apply to identify one or more of said components of said definition of the process for removal from said definition;
and
transforming said definition by removing from said definition of the process the identified one or more of said components to obtain a changed definition of the process to change a configuration of the definition of the process on the specified computing device to deliver the from the specified computing device;
and
wherein said assumptions include:
there has been no change to the definition of the process on the specified computing device since a defined time;
and
only defined types of updates are to be performed on the specified computing device to the process.

A system for optimizing mobile services offered by a mobile client computer device, the system comprising:

at least one mobile client computer device;
a data storage device for storing a definition of a process in computer readable code, said definition being comprised of a multitude of components;
one or more server computers for obtaining said definition from the data storage device and for transmitting said definition to the mobile client computer device to operate the process on the mobile client computer device to provide a specified service;
and
said one or more of the server computers:
expressing in a computer readable code a given set of assumptions for executing the definition of the process on the mobile client computer device;
using said given set of assumptions to identify one or more of said components of said definition of the process for removal from said definition;
and
after transmitting the definition to the mobile client computer device, transforming said definition by removing from said definition of the process the identified one or more of said components to obtain a changed definition of the process to change a configuration of the definition of the process on the mobile client computer device to provide the specified service;
and
wherein said transforming is done by:
processing a flow diagram for the process;
locating in the flow diagram, a flow to which one or more of the assumptions apply;
applying one or more of a defined set of program rewriting techniques at the located flow in the flow diagram;
and
repeating said locating and applying until there are no more flows in the flow diagram to which any of the assumptions apply.
