A method for manufacturing a later generation optical disc, comprising:
- encoding original address information to form encoded original address information, the original address information including address unit number information and parity information, the parity information generated based on the address unit number information;
- inverting a portion of said encoded original address information to form partially inverted encoded original address information, said portion being unique to a format for the later generation optical disc that is different than a format for an earlier generation optical disc standard, the inverting including inverting half of a plurality of fields of encoded address unit number information and half of a plurality of fields of encoded parity information;
- and
- forming the disc by recording thereon the partially inverted encoded original address information.
