Velocity sensitive passenger vehicle trailer brake controller

A trailer brake controller for use in a passenger vehicle towing a trailer, the trailer brake controller comprising:

• a controller including logic adapted to receive intended braking inputs and vehicle speed from one of an anti-lock braking system or an electronic stability control system;
• the controller including logic adapted to access a predetermined trailer brake controller output profile and scale the predetermined trailer brake controller output profile in response to an adjustable gain setting set by an operator;
• the controller including logic adapted to access a plurality of stored baseline trailer brake controller output profiles;
• the controller including logic adapted to select one of the plurality of stored baseline trailer brake controller output profiles dependent upon the intended brake inputs and the vehicle speed to set a correction factor;
• and
• the controller including logic adapted to adjust a trailer brake control output signal using the correction factor.
