Abstract
The present invention provides methods and compositions for improving plant health. In particular, application of dicamba or another substrate of DMO, or metabolites thereof including DCSA, to a plant confers tolerance to, or defense against, abiotic or biotic stresses such as oxidative stress including herbicide application, and plant disease, and enhances crop yield. Such application may be in combination with the application of another herbicide such as glyphosate.
Claims29
A method for improving the health of a plant or population of plants, comprising:
- (i) providing 3,6-dichloro salicylic acid to the plant, a product of DMO-mediated metabolism, or analog thereof, in an amount that improves the health of the plant as compared to a plant of the same genotype not provided with 3,6-dichloro salicylic acid;
- or
- (ii) providing dicamba to the plant, wherein the plant provided with dicamba is a transgenic plant comprising a DMO-encoding transgene, in a non-herbicidal amount that improves the health of the plant as compared to a plant of the same genotype not provided with dicamba, wherein the improved health comprises improved tolerance to biotic or abiotic stress wherein non-herbicidal amount comprises from 0.0025 lb/a to 9 lb/a.
