## Abstract

A system of accessing through a financial processing network multiple accounts associated with a single financial card. Data is input to the financial network in addition to the transaction data and the account identification data that in read from the card. This addition data permits the proper account to be accessed. The data may be input at the point of sale as an account selection. In this instance, the selection may be used to route the transaction data through the financial processing network or may be used to read data regarding one of multiple accounts encoded on the card. The data may also be stored as conditional routing rules at transfer points in the financial processing network. In this instance, the transaction is routed to the proper account based on the stored rules.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer-implemented method for using a financial transaction device to access multiple accounts, comprising:
issuing a financial transaction device to a cardholder wherein the financial transaction device stores machine readable data corresponding to a first account;
processing, by a computer processor, a transaction initiated by the financial transaction device by reading the machine readable data;
receiving a selection of a second account against which the transaction is to be processed, following the initiation of the transaction, wherein the second account is selected from at least one additional account associated with the cardholder and the at least one additional account differs from the first account;
receiving a transaction request, based upon the transaction initiated by the financial transaction device, from a point of sale or merchant processor, wherein the transaction request comprises the machine readable data corresponding to the first account appended with the selection of the second account; and
routing, by the computer processor, the transaction through a financial processing chain based on the selection of the second account appended in the transaction request wherein decision-making logic is applied in the processing chain to process the transaction request against the second account.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first account comprises a master account.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one additional account comprises:
a credit account;
a debit account;
an ATM account; or
a stored value account.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein a personal identification number is required to complete the transaction.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the financial processing chain includes one or more of a merchant system, a third party pre-router system, a merchant acquirer system, a card network, and a processor system.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising: applying at least one arbitration rule to resolve a conflict between the selected second account and a rule applied to the transaction by a merchant associated with the point of sale or merchant processor, wherein the at least one arbitration rule presents an option for override.
