A recombinant DNA molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:
- 1-8, SEQ ID NO:
- 10, and complete complements thereof.
A composition comprising a DNA probe comprising a nucleotide sequence of sufficient length of contiguous nucleotides of SEQ ID NO:
- 10, or a complete complement thereof, to function as a DNA probe that hybridizes under stringent hybridization conditions with a DNA molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO 1-8 and SEQ ID NO:
- 10 and does not hybridize under the stringent hybridization conditions with a DNA molecule not comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:
- 1-8 or SEQ ID NO:
- 10, and wherein said DNA probe comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A composition comprising a pair of DNA molecules comprising a first DNA molecule and a second DNA molecule different from the first DNA molecule, wherein said first and second DNA molecules each comprise a nucleotide sequence of sufficient length of contiguous nucleotides of SEQ ID NO:
- 10, or a complete complement thereof, and wherein said first DNA molecule resides in a transgene insert DNA sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 10, and said second DNA molecule resides in the cotton genomic DNA sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 10, to function as DNA primers when used together in an amplification reaction with DNA from event MON 88701 to produce an amplicon diagnostic for cotton event MON 88701 DNA in a sample, and wherein said amplicon comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A DNA detection kit comprising:
- a) a pair of DNA molecules comprising a first and a second DNA molecule different from the first DNA molecule, wherein said first and second DNA molecules each comprise a nucleotide sequence of sufficient length of contiguous nucleotides of SEQ ID NO:
- 10 or a complete complement thereof, and wherein said first DNA molecule resides in a transgene insert sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 10, and said second DNA molecule resides in the cotton genomic DNA sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 10, to function as DNA primers when used together in an amplification reaction with DNA from event MON 88701 to produce an amplicon diagnostic for cotton event MON 88701 DNA in a sample, wherein said amplicon comprises the nucleotide sequences of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- or
- b) at least one DNA probe diagnostic for event MON 88701, wherein the DNA probe comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A recombinant cotton plant, seed, cell, or plant part thereof comprising the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 and SEQ ID NO:
- 2 and a nucleic acid molecule encoding a DMO protein and a PAT protein.
A recombinant cotton plant, seed, cell or part thereof comprising event MON 88701, a representative sample of seed comprising event MON 88701 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-11754.
A method for controlling weeds in a field comprising planting cotton plants comprising event MON 88701 in a field and applying an effective dose of dicamba or glufosinate or dicamba and glufosinate herbicide to control weeds in said field without injuring said cotton plants comprising event MON 88701.
A method for controlling weeds in a field comprising applying an effective dose of dicamba or glufosinate or dicamba and glufosinate herbicide to control weeds in a field and then planting cotton plants comprising event MON 88701 in said field.
A method for producing cotton seed or lint essentially free of weed seeds, said method comprising:
- a) planting seeds comprising cotton event MON 88701 in a field;
- b) applying an effective dose of a dicamba or glufosinate or dicamba and glufosinate herbicide to said field to kill weeds in said field without injuring cotton plants comprising event MON 88701;
- and
- c) harvesting cotton seed or lint from said field.
