A GLA compound having the following structure (IV):
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein:
- L1, L2, L3, and L4 are the same or different and independently —O—, —NH— or —(CH2)—;
- Y1 is an acid functional group;
- Y2 and Y3 are the same or different and independently —OH, —SH, or an acid functional group;
- and
- Y4 is —OH or —SH.
A GLA compound having the following structure (IX):
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A vaccine composition comprising a compound in combination with an antigen or a recombinant expression vector encoding an antigen, wherein the compound has the following structure (IV):
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein:
- L1, L2, L3, and L4 are the same or different and independently —O—, —NH— or —(CH2)—;
- Y1 is an acid functional group;
- Y2 and Y3 are the same or different and independently —OH, —SH, or an acid functional group;
- and
- Y4 is —OH or —SH.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient, wherein the compound has the following structure (IV):
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein:
- L1, L2, L3, and L4 are the same or different and independently —O—, —NH— or —(CH2)—;
- Y1 is an acid functional group;
- Y2 and Y3 are the same or different and independently —OH, —SH, or an acid functional group;
- and
- Y4 is —OH or —SH.
