Abstract

A web page authoring tool is provided enables a developer to interact with run-time output presentation of a page being authored. The web page authoring tool includes an embedded browser that supports a “live preview mode” that enables a run-time page to be viewed. Thus, the live preview mode presents an operational run-time output presentation that is generated by browser source code (rather than original source code), just as would be presented by a client-side browser, and which may present a code view of the run-time browser source code that generates such run-time output presentation. Further, the run-time output presentation view provided by the web page authoring tool remains interoperable with certain authoring support functions of the web page authoring tool, such as enabling a developer to easily access corresponding original source code for selected portions of a run-time page view.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

causing, by an authoring tool executed by a processor, at least one original source file to be modified to generate at least one browser source code file, wherein generating the at least one browser source code file comprises processing the at least one original source file to provide an output presentation;
providing, in an interface of the authoring tool, a run-time view comprising the output presentation, wherein the output presentation comprises at least one interface component configured to perform a run-time operation in response to input received by the output presentation in the interface of the authoring tool;
and
providing, by the authoring tool, authoring interaction in the run-time view, wherein the authoring interaction comprises modifying the browser source code file or the original source file in response to an authoring input received at the run-time view.
