Abstract
Described are systems and methods for instrumenting configuration and system settings based on targeting configuration settings at dynamically populated groups, groups with varied membership, and objects defined in a class. The systems and methods provide for attributing a configuration setting or policy to one or more objects and then targeting the object at one or more scopes.
Claims17
One or more computer readable storage devices storing executable instructions, that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:
- receiving a notification indicating a conflict between first and second installed configuration settings;
- determining a cause of the conflict by:
- analyzing a scope to which the first installed configuration setting is applied and a scope to which the second installed configuration setting is applied;
- and
- based at least in part on the analysis, determining that one or more classes of objects associated with the first installed configuration setting overlaps with one or more classes of objects associated with the second installed configuration setting;
- and
- causing the conflict to be resolved through one or more resolution strategies based at least in part on the cause of the conflict.
A method comprising:
- under control of one or more computing systems:
- receiving a notification indicating a conflict between first and second installed configuration settings;
- determining a cause of the conflict by determining that one or more classes of objects associated with the first installed configuration setting overlaps with one or more classes of objects associated with the second installed configuration setting;
- and
- causing the conflict to be resolved through one or more resolution strategies based at least in part on the cause of the conflict.
A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- memory communicatively coupled to the one or more processors;
- and
- a conflict resolution module at least partially stored in the memory and at least partially executable by the one or more processors to:
- identify a conflict between first and second installed configuration settings;
- determine a cause of the conflict by analyzing a scope to which the first installed configuration setting is applied and a scope to which the second installed configuration setting is applied, the analysis identifying that at least one class of objects is within the scope to which the first installed configuration setting is applied and is within the scope to which the second installed configuration setting is applied;
- and
- identify a resolution strategy to resolve the conflict based at least in part on the cause of the conflict.
