High performance data transport system and method

A data transport system for a wireless digital communication network comprising:

• a plurality of relay nodes, at least two Subnet Manager nodes, and at least two Flow Manager nodes, wherein said Flow Manager nodes include a home Flow Manager node connected to a first relay node serving as a source node;
• a plurality of data transport network interface types among said nodes;
• a second relay node serving as a destination node;
• a multipath tree rooted at the home Flow Manager node for data transport along one of at least two paths from said source node to the destination node;
• a Real-time Reservation Transport Protocol for Quality of Service data transport in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks from the source node to the destination node, said RRTP using in-band signaling by said home Flow Manager for making actual reservations of node resources along an active data transport path of the multipath tree and virtual reservations that can be dynamically switched to active status along at least one alternate path of said multipath tree for said Quality of Service data transport.

A method for providing Quality of Service data transport in a wireless digital communication Mobile Ad-Hoc network (MANET) comprising the steps of:

• establishing a multipath tree rooted at a Flow Manager node connected to a source node for data transport along one of at least two paths between said source node and a destination node;
• using in-band signaling for making actual reservations of node resources along an active data transport path of the multipath tree and making virtual reservations of node resources that can be dynamically switched from virtual to active reservation status along at least one alternate data transport path and creating flow states along the paths of the multipath tree;
• activating the path of the multipath tree having actual reservations for data transport;
• transporting data along said activated path;
• monitoring data transport compliance with the Quality of Service requirements;
• and
• terminating the data transport.

A wireless digital communication network comprising:

• a plurality of network interface types among relay nodes, at least one Subnet Manager node, and at least one Flow Manager node, wherein said at
• least one Flow Manager nodes include a home Flow Manager node connected to a first relay node serving as a source node;
• a second relay node serving as a destination node;
• a multipath tree rooted at the home Flow Manager node for data transport along one of at least two paths from the source node to the destination node;
• a Real-time Reservation Transport Protocol for providing Quality of Service assurances to secure communication flows from the source node to the destination node through interoperation with security protocols in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs), said RRTP using in-band signaling by said home Flow Manager for making actual reservations of node resources along an active data transport path of the multipath tree and virtual reservations that can be dynamically switched to active status along at least one alternate data transport path of said multipath tree for said Quality of Service data transport.
