Abstract
A milk protein hydrolysate which is preferably caseinoglycomacropeptide and/or a whey protein in a bioavailable form is used for the manufacture of a composition for the treatment or prevention of diabetes or syndrome X. The invention also relates to a method of treatment or prevention of diabetes or syndrome X utilizing such compositions, a method for assessing proglucagon gene expression and GLP-1 release by a cell line derived from an adenocarcinoma of human caecum.
Claims14
A method of treatment of type II diabetes, the method comprising administering to a human subject having type II diabetes an effective amount of isolated caseinoglycomacropeptide (CGMP) that is capable of inducing release of GLP-1 in the subject in an amount sufficient to improve glucose metabolism in the subject or to control glycemic response in the subject.
A method for inducing release of GLP-1 in a human subject, the method comprising administering to the human subject a GLP-1 releasing composition comprising isolated CGMP in an amount sufficient to cause secretion of GLP-1 in the subject.
