Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of TFF3 in the diagnosis and detection of Barrett's esophagus using non-invasive, non-endoscopic methods.
Claims12
A non-invasive method of screening for Barrett's oesophagus (BE) in a subject comprising:
- obtaining a sample of cells, including oesophageal cells, from a subject using a swallowable device comprising an abrasive material configured to be sufficiently abrasive to collect at least some columnar cells in said sample of cells;
- and
- determining the presence of Trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) in said sample of cells, wherein the presence of said TFF3 is indicative of said subject having BE, and wherein the specificity and sensitivity of said method of screening for BE are at least about 80% and about 65% respectively.
