Abstract
The invention relates to electrodes for electrochemical analysis comprising: —an insulating surface; —carbon nanotubes situated on the insulating surface at a density of at least 0.1 μmCNT Um−2; and —an electrically conducting material in electrical contact with the carbon nanotubes; wherein the carbon nanotubes cover an area of no more than about 5.0% of the insulating surface. Methods of making such electrodes and assay devices or kits with such electrodes, are also provided.
Claims19
An electrode for electrochemical analysis, comprising:
- an insulating surface;
- carbon nanotubes situated on the insulating surface at a density of at least 0.1 μmCNT μm−2;
- an electrically conducting material in electrical contact with the carbon nanotubes;
- wherein the carbon nanotubes cover an area of no more than about 1.0% of the insulating surface;
- and
- wherein the carbon nanotubes are functionalised by a group or moiety selected from polymers, oxido-reductase enzymes and dopants.
A method of electrochemically analysing a solution, comprising:
- providing an electrode comprising an insulating surface, said insulating surface having carbon nanotubes situated thereon at a density of at least 0.1 μmCNT μm−2, and an electrically conducting material in electrical contact with the carbon nanotubes, wherein the carbon nanotubes cover an area of no more than about 1.0% of the insulating surface;
- and wherein the carbon nanotubes are functionalised by a group or moiety selected from polymers, oxido-reductase enzymes and dopants;
- bringing a sample of the solution into contact with the carbon nanotubes;
- and
- applying a potential across the electrode to electrochemically analyse the sample,
- wherein the solution has an analyte concentration of no more than about 100 μM.
