Abstract
There is provided a system, apparatus and methods for developing laser systems that can create a precise predetermined capsulotomy. The systems, apparatus and methods further provide laser systems that reduce the patient-to-patient variability and doctor-to-doctor variability associated with hand held apparatus for performing capsulorhexis and capsulotomies. There is further provided a precise predetermined shot pattern and shaped capsulotomy that is based at least in part on the shape of an IOL and in particular an accommodating IOL.

A system for providing accurate measurements of an eye, the system comprising:
- a light source that generates light;
- a glass plate positioned between said light source and an eye, wherein said light passes through said glass plate and enters into said eye and impinges on a lens of said eye;
- an imaging device that receives 1) a first set of light beams reflected from a bottom surface of said glass plate positioned nearest said eye and 2) a second set of light beams reflected from said lens and generates image information therefrom;
- and
- means for receiving said image information and processing said image information so that an image of said glass plate is generated and a measurement of said lens is generated.
A system for providing accurate measurements of an eye, the system comprising:
- a light source that generates light;
- a glass plate positioned between said light source and an eye, wherein said light passes through said glass plate and enters into said eye and impinges on a lens of said eye, wherein said glass plate has a thickness of 1.57 mm and an index of refraction of 1.57;
- an imaging device that receives 1) a first set of light beams reflected from a bottom surface of said glass plate positioned nearest said eye and 2) a second set of light beams reflected from said lens and generates image information therefrom;
- and
- means for receiving said image information and processing said image information so that a measurement of said lens is generated.
A system for providing accurate measurements of an eye, the system comprising:
- a light source that generates light;
- a glass plate positioned between said light source and an eye, wherein said light passes through said glass plate and enters into said eye and impinges on a lens of said eye;
- an imaging device that receives 1) a first set of light beams reflected from a bottom surface of said glass plate positioned nearest said eye and 2) a second set of light beams reflected from said lens and generates image information therefrom;
- and
- means for receiving said image information and processing said image information so that a measurement of said lens is generated, wherein said light is directed through a theoretical planar surface and then passes through said glass plate;
- and wherein said light reflected from said lens intersects said planar surface along a curve that represents curvature of a portion of said lens from which said light is reflected from said lens.
A system for providing accurate measurements of an eye, the system comprising:
- a light source that generates light;
- a glass plate positioned between said light source and an eye, wherein said light passes through said glass plate and enters into said eye and impinges on a lens of said eye;
- an imaging device that receives 1) a first set of light beams reflected from a bottom surface of said glass plate positioned nearest said eye and 2) a second set of light beams reflected from said lens and generates image information therefrom;
- and
- means for receiving said image information and processing said image information so that a measurement of said lens is generated, wherein said bottom surface applanates a cornea of said eye.
A method for providing accurate measurements of an eye, the method comprising:
- generating light from a light source;
- positioning a glass plate between said light source and an eye, wherein said light passes through said glass plate and enters into said eye and impinges on a lens of said eye;
- generating image information from 1) a first set of light beams reflected from a bottom surface of said glass plate positioned nearest said eye and 2) a second set of light beams reflected from said lens and generates image information;
- and
- processing said image information so that an image of said glass plate is generated and a measurement of said lens is generated.
