Abstract
This invention relates to providing energy efficient thermo-electric heat pump systems for iso-thermal transport and storage, of perishable goods, such as vaccines, chemicals, biologicals, and other temperature sensitive goods. Also this invention relates to providing energy efficient iso-thermal transport and storage systems, of perishable goods, which are compact, light weight. This invention further relates to providing on-board energy storage for sustaining, for multiple days, the ability of such iso-thermal transport and storage systems to maintain temperature sensitive goods at a constant-temperature.
Claims29
A thermal protection system, relating to thermally protecting temperature-sensitive goods, comprising:
- a) at least one thermo-electric heat pump adapted to control at least one temperature of the temperature-sensitive goods;
- b) wherein said at least one thermo-electric heat pump comprises more than three stacked thermo-electric devices that are electrically dependent on each other and adapted to active use of the Peltier effect, wherein at least two thermo-electric devices are electrically connected in series and two are electrically connected in parallel;
- c) wherein said at least one thermo-electric heat pump comprises at least one thermal capacitor disposed between two thermo-electric devices and adapted to provide at least one thermal capacitance in thermal association with at least one of the thermo-electric devices;
- and
- d) wherein such at least one thermal capacitance is user-selected to provide intended thermal association with at least one of the at least two thermo-electric devices.
A thermal protection system, relating to thermally protecting temperature-sensitive goods, comprising:
- a) at least one thermo-electric heat pump adapted to control at least one temperature of the temperature-sensitive goods;
- b) wherein the at least one thermo-electric heat pump comprises more than three stacked thermo-electric devices adapted to active use of the Peltier effect, each thermo-electric device comprising multiple semiconductor nodes;
- c) wherein the at least one thermo-electric heat pump comprises at least one thermal capacitor adapted to provide at least one thermal capacitance in thermal association with at least one of the more than three stacked thermo-electric devices;
- d) wherein the at least one thermal capacitance is user-selected to provide intended thermal association with at least one of the more than three stacked thermo-electric devices;
- and
- e) wherein at least one thin non-electrically conductive layer electrically separates the stacked thermo-electric devices from the at least one thermal capacitor while maintaining thermal conductivity.
