Abstract
This document discusses, among other things, an example system and methods for memory expansion. An example embodiment includes receiving first initialization data from a physical dual inline memory module (DIMM) and converting the first initialization data to second initialization data of a logical DIMM mapped to the physical DIMM. The example embodiment may further include programming a memory controller based on the second initialization data.
Claims23
A method comprising:
- retrieving first initialization data from a physical dual inline memory module (DIMM);
- converting the first initialization data to second initialization data of a logical DIMM mapped to the physical DIMM, the converting of the first initialization data to the second initialization data being based on a linear function that multiplies a first initialization value included in the first initialization data by a factor to determine a second initialization value included in the second initialization data, the first initialization value corresponding to a first memory capacity of the physical DIMM and the second initialization value corresponding to a second memory capacity of the logical DIMM;
- and
- programming a memory controller based on the second initialization data corresponding to the logical DIMM to control memory access to the physical DIMM.
A system comprising:
- retrieving means for retrieving first initialization data from a physical dual inline memory module (DIMM);
- converting means for converting the first initialization data to second initialization data of a logical DIMM mapped to the physical DIMM, the converting means including a computer-implemented linear function that multiplies a first initialization value included in the first initialization data by a factor to determine a second initialization value included in the second initialization data, the first initialization value corresponding to a first memory capacity of the physical DIMM and the second initialization value corresponding to a second memory capacity of the logical DIMM;
- and
- programming means for programming a memory controller based on the second initialization data corresponding to the logical DIMM to control memory access to the physical DIMM.
A system comprising:
- a basic input output system (BIOS) module communicatively coupled with a physical dual inline memory module (DIMM) and a memory controller, the BIOS module configured to:
- retrieve first initialization data from the physical DIMM;
- convert the first initialization data to second initialization data of a logical DIMM mapped to the physical DIMM, the converting of the first initialization data to the second initialization data being based on a linear function that multiplies a first initialization value included in the first initialization data by a factor to determine a second initialization value included in the second initialization data, the first initialization value corresponding to a first memory capacity of the physical DIMM and the second initialization value corresponding to a second memory capacity of the logical DIMM;
- and
- program the memory controller based on the second initialization data corresponding to the logical DIMM to control memory access to the physical DIMM.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions that, when executed by a processing system, cause the processing system to:
- retrieve first initialization data from a physical dual inline memory module (DIMM);
- convert the first initialization data to second initialization data of a logical DIMM mapped to the physical DIMM, the converting of the first initialization data to the second initialization data being based on a linear function that multiplies a first initialization value included in the first initialization data by a factor to determine a second initialization value included in the second initialization data, the first initialization value corresponding to a first memory capacity of the physical DIMM and the second initialization value corresponding to a second memory capacity of the logical DIMM;
- and
- program a memory controller based on the second initialization data corresponding to the logical D1MM to control memory access to the physical DIMM.
