Methods and systems for initiating application processes by data capture from rendered documents

An article of manufacture including a non-transitory computer-readable medium, having stored thereon program instructions that, if executed by a user device, cause the user device to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a first image of at least a portion of a rendered document, wherein the first image comprises a scan of the rendered document;
• sending the first image of the at least the portion of the rendered document to a document server;
• in response to sending the first image, receiving an electronic counterpart of the rendered document from a document server;
• capturing a second image of at least a portion of an item;
• identifying the item in the electronic counterpart;
• generating an order for the identified item based on the electronic counterpart;
• and
• sending the order for the item.
