Abstract
Coincident with the evolution, maturation, etc. of wireless messaging ecosystems an infrastructure that provides for intelligent and dynamic alternate Multimedia Message Service (MMS) message delivery channels. Occasions may arise where a Mobile Subscriber would like to use their Wireless Device to exchange (for example, MMS) messages but circumstances may prohibit or limit same. On such occasions the MMS messages may be appropriately processed and then routed through one or more alternate message delivery channels such as, possibly inter alia, E-Mail. The infrastructure may optionally leverage the capabilities of a centrally-located Messaging Inter-Carrier Vendor.
Claims16
A method for delivering a Multimedia Message Service (MMS) message, comprising:
- receiving from a device of an originating mobile subscriber a MMS message that is addressed to a telephone number of a device of a destination mobile subscriber;
- performing at least one processing step on aspects of the MMS message, including at least querying a routing data repository, yielding at least an MMS support descriptor for the device of the destination mobile subscriber;
- responsive to the MMS support descriptor indicating the absence of MMS support on the device of the destination mobile subscriber sending at least aspects of the MMS message through an e-mail delivery channel;
- wherein the routing data repository is populated through one or more of (a) data load and (b) real-time query,
- wherein the real-time query includes interrogation of the device of the destination mobile subscriber, and
- wherein the real-time query of the device of the destination mobile subscriber is triggered as a result of the processing step of querying the routing data repository, which is triggered by receipt of the MMS message.
