Abstract
The invention relates to an optical system arranged to provide an output which, in operation, comprises at least one figure of merit, Q. The system comprises an optical component having multiple working areas, said component being mounted on a support member. The system further comprises an optical beam path arranged to bring light into interaction with at least one working area of the optical component wherein the position of said working area(s) may be selected by relative movement between said path and said component while keeping Q substantially unaffected by said movement.
Claims21
An optical system arranged to provide an output which in operation comprises at least one figure of merit, Q, said system comprising:
- a laser source comprising a laser cavity, the laser cavity including a reflecting optical component forming one end of the laser cavity,
- said reflecting optical component has a non-linear optical response and has multiple working areas, said reflecting optical component being mounted on a support member such that the support member is in direct mechanical communication with said reflecting optical component,
- said optical system further comprising an optical beam path arranged to bring light into interaction with at least one working area of the reflecting optical component,
- wherein a position of said working area(s) is determined by relative movement between said optical beam path and said support member while keeping Q substantially unaffected by said movement.
An optical device comprising:
- a support member, a main member, and a deformation member, the support member and the main member in mechanical communication via the deformation member which is deformable,
- said support member being in direct mechanical communication with a non-linear optical component arranged for optical interaction with light running parallel to an optical axis,
- said optical component having a work plane comprising a normal vector {right arrow over (n)} parallel to said optical axis, said work plane comprising multiple working areas each having a normal vector {right arrow over (n)} parallel to said optical axis,
- wherein said device is arranged so that when deformation of the deformation member occurs, {right arrow over (n)} is substantially constant and the deformation member has a width measured parallel to {right arrow over (n)} and a thickness measured perpendicular to {right arrow over (n)} wherein the thickness divided by the width is more than 1 and wherein the direction for deformation is perpendicular to said width.
