Abstract
A chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system comprises an optical pulse stretcher and an optical pulse compressor that are mismatched in that the optical pulse compressor includes a bulk optical grating while the optical pulse stretcher does not. High order dispersion compensation is provided by an optical phase mask disposed within the optical pulse compressor.
Claims9
A system comprising:
- an optical amplifier configured to optically amplify a chirped optical pulse;
- and
- an optical pulse compressor configured to compress the optically amplified chirped optical pulse, the optical pulse compressor including
- a bulk optical grating configured to spatially disperse the optically amplified chirped optical pulse into a spatially dispersed optical pulse and direct the spatially dispersed optical pulse in a first direction along a first path, and
- an optical phase mask configured to perform dispersion compensation of the spatially dispersed optical pulse by adjusting an optical phase;
- and
- an optical pulse stretcher coupled to the optical amplifier and configured to output a chirped optical pulse to the optical amplifier.
