Portable electronic device and method of controlling same

A portable electronic device comprising:

• a touch screen display;
• a processor coupled to the touch screen display and configured to:
• display, on the touch screen display, an area defined by a boundary, wherein the boundary separates displayed data from displayed selectable features,
• detect a touch event at a touch location within the area on the touch screen display,
• determine when touch contact is maintained and the touch event moves to a new location outside of the area, and
• perform an action in response to detecting that the touch contact event moved to the new location.

A method comprising:

• providing a graphical user interface for an application on a touch screen display of a portable electronic device, wherein the graphical user interface includes a first area of the application and a second area of the application, wherein the first area has a boundary that separates displayed data in the first area from selectable features displayed in the second area;
• detecting a touch event at a touch location within the first area on the touch screen display;
• determining when touch contact is maintained and the touch event moves to a new location outside the first area, wherein the new location is within the second area;
• performing an action in response to detecting that the touch event moved to the new location.

A method comprising:

• displaying, on a touch screen display of a portable electronic device, a first area of the application and a second area of the application, wherein the first area has a boundary that separates displayed data in the first area from selectable features displayed in the second area;
• detecting a touch event at a touch location within the first area on the touch screen display;
• determining when touch contact is maintained and the touch event moves to a new location outside the first area, wherein the new location is within the second area;
• scrolling the displayed data in the first area in response to detecting that the touch event moved to the new location.
