The invention relates to the field of compounds, especially peptides or polypeptides, that have thrombopoietic activity. The peptides and polypeptides of the invention may be used to increase platelets or platelet precursors (e.g., megakaryocytes) in a mammal.

A method increasing megakaryocytes or platelets in a patient in need thereof, comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a compound comprising SEQ ID NO:34 [or SEQ ID No:46].
A method of treating thrombocyptopenia in a patient in need thereof, comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a compound comprising SEQ ID NO:34 [or SEQ ID NO:46].
