Abstract
Highly compactable granulations and methods for preparing highly compactable granulations are disclosed. More particularly, highly compactable calcium carbonate granulations are disclosed. The granulations comprise powdered materials such as calcium carbonate that have small median particle sizes. The disclosed granulations are useful in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical tableting and provide smaller tablet sizes upon compression than previously available.

A calcium carbonate granulation for pharmaceutical or nutraceutical tabletting comprising:
- USP or food grade calcium carbonate powder having a median particle diameter from about 6 μm to about 12 μm and a binder, said granulation being highly compactable, having a tap density between about 1.0 and about 2.0 g/cm3, being free flowing and having sufficient cohesive properties for compression into tablets.
A calcium carbonate granulation for pharmaceutical or nutraceutical tabletting comprising:
- USP or food grade calcium carbonate powder having a median particle diameter from about 6 μm to about 12 μm and about 5% by weight maltodextrin, said granulation being highly compactable, having a tap density between about 1.0 and about 2.0 g/cm3, being free flowing and having sufficient cohesive properties for compression into tablets.
